About Us
Picture arriving for work everyday and being greeted by the incredible view from d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant which sweeps over the d’Arenberg vineyards and on to the Willunga escarpment. You don’t get much better than that, and we three are lucky enough to have this as our constant companion.
Jealous? It’s ok, we love sharing!
Being surrounded by nature and the seasons like this, we are sensitive to their whimsies and privy to their changeable abundances, which we incorporate into all our dishes with relish.
When we were entrusted with d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant five years ago, we found ourselves amidst a vibrant winery and fertile productive region, both of which provide us with daily inspiration for endless food and wine possibilities.
Over time we have found it is our relationships which we have built up with our local suppliers that have helped to forge our personality. Our most obvious relationship is of course with the amazing d’Arenberg range of wines which have been skillfully crafted by both the stalwart d’Arry and the artisan Chester.
The element we find most exciting about working with the range, which boasts over 30 wines, is that they are all distinctively individual. It is a rare joy to play with such an impressive line up at your finger tips, and as you can imagine many hours of serious research go into the whole process - swirl, sniff, gargle, chomp, munch, drool…
Along with Ian our butcher, who has done everything from cold smoking quails, lamb and tomatoes to producing sausages from our own recipe, and Vince our olive oil supplier, who we have worked with to come up with our own blend, we have a number of smaller producers who knock on our door when they have something in season.
In the end it is the freshness and diversity of produce that comes through our door sets the pace for our menu ideas, and our love affair with where we find ourselves each day that keeps us fresh and keen for more.
